Leading public service provider Amey today announced that Investments Managing Director Asif Ghafoor is joining the Executive team.
Asif joined Amey in 2006 as Finance and Commercial Director, and since then has developed its investments arm significantly and played a key role in many of key strategic projects including North Yorkshire Waste, M8, Sheffield Highways and Isle of Wight Waste.
Asif leads a dedicated professional team of commercial, estimators and investments experts. He manages a team who work with the business to help solve complex challenges, supporting the business unit Managing Directors as they focus on a range of areas including mobility, rail funding and smart meter ownership.
Although Amey is known more for its operational activities across our key areas such as rail, highways, environmental services, utilities and facilities management, we’re also highly experienced at helping our clients address the challenge of austerity by developing innovative financing structures so Amey can deliver major projects. Over the past ten years, Asif and his team have helped raise over £4 billion of private finance, including traditional bank debt, bond issues and European Investment Bank funding. In addition, the investment team is responsible for managing an investment portfolio of over £200m with more than 20 investments in all our key sectors including Defence, Justice, Education, Highways and Environment.
Amey CEO Andy Milner said: “Asif’s appointment to the Executive completes what is a strong team to lead our business into the next chapter of its story. I have worked with Asif for a number of years and I am confident that his energy, enthusiasm and diversity in thinking will be a great addition to our team and moving our business forward.’’
Asif commented: “I am really excited to be joining the Executive team. Never before has infrastructure, and how it is funded been such a key topic for our country. I am focused on leveraging our considerable investments experience in negotiating, bidding, pricing and financing to ensure Amey is at the forefront of the development of next generation of infrastructure.’’
Asif’s appointment follows the recent appointment of Amanda Fisher as MD of FM, Defence and Justice, as well Jayne Bowie's promotion to Group Legal Director and Carol Hui appointment to our Board of Directors.
