Amey, a leading UK infrastructure services provider has been awarded the IiP Gold standard for going above and beyond in the way they develop, support and motivate their employees. Amey which previously won silver is the only company in its sector to have been awarded Investors in People Gold across the whole of its business.

The Gold award celebrates companies that perform significantly beyond the core Investors in People Standard. The Standard provides a solid foundation for further growth and development and is awarded to well-run organisations which meet demanding set criteria, including learning and development, leadership skills and recognition and reward of employees amongst others.

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive at Amey, which has more than 11,000 employees, said: “I am delighted that we have been awarded Gold accreditation by Investors in People. It is recognition that we are taking the right steps to ensure we attract and retain talented people whilst promoting a positive working environment.

“Developing our people, their skills and nurturing a winning attitude benefits our clients, helping us deliver a high quality service. We will continue to take an active part in up-skilling the industries and communities we work within.”

Amey was praised for its achievements across five core areas including:-
• A culture of positivity
• Effective TUPE management
• Strong internal values that are genuinely lived and understood
• Approach to health and safety - including its Target Zero programme
• The Apprenticeship programme which includes partnering with the Duke of Edinburgh and committing to employing 2% of the workforce as Apprentices was recognised to be outstanding.

Zoe Peters, an Apprentice trainee technician at Amey, says: “I think it’s amazing that Amey gives me the chance to learn whilst I start to build my career. As part of my Apprenticeship, Amey has paid for me to attend university part-time to study for a degree in Civil Engineering. My Apprenticeship has been really good for me on a personal level, as well as on a professional and academic one and I’m excited about my future with the business.”

Amey will also become an IiP Gold Champion, providing advice and help for other businesses aiming to achieve the award.

John Telfer, Managing Director of Inspiring Business Performance Ltd (IBP), the organisation that delivers Investors in People for London and the South, said: “The current economic climate makes it even more important that an organisation adapts to survive. Amey is a shining example that proves organisations can achieve great things during challenging times.

“Being recognised as an Investor in People is becoming increasingly more important, and the higher the level of accreditation, the better it reflects on your organisation to potential employees, investors and customers. Amey should be extremely proud of their achievement.”

Working with Investors in People is proven to improve financial performance, productivity and profitability. Companies that have achieved the Investors in People Standard also have higher levels of trust, co-operation and commitment than their competitors.
