Amey teams across the UK took part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out 2026, swapping a night of comfort for the challenge of sleeping outdoors to raise funds for veterans experiencing homelessness.
Throughout March, colleagues from depots, offices and senior leadership slept out in challenging locations alongside clients and supply chain partners, raising £19,415 (including Gift Aid) for Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE).
Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE) is a national charity that creates jobs, provides homes and builds supportive communities for veterans. Its village in Kent is already home to more than 300 veterans and their families, and support from initiatives like The Great Tommy Sleep Out helps RBVE extend this work even further. Alongside its homes, RBVE operates social enterprises where more than 70 per cent of the workforce are veterans, people with disabilities, or both, providing secure employment and a route back to independence.
This year’s Sleep Out built on Amey’s long‑standing partnership with RBVE. To date, Amey has invested over £5.5 million with the charity, generating more than £900,000 in measurable social value and enabling RBVE to create and sustain employment for eight veterans. The funds raised this March will further support RBVE’s work providing emergency accommodation, employment pathways, training and wellbeing support.
Tom Silvey, Amey’s Business Director for Defence, took part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out, commenting: “Our teams showed incredible commitment by giving up a night of comfort to stand with those who have served. We are proud that our partnership with RBVE is delivering real, lasting impact. From creating jobs for veterans to supporting vital services that help rebuild lives.”
Paula Ray, Director of Fundraising, said: “Amey’s partnership with RBVE makes a huge impact on the roles we can offer to veterans in our social enterprises. It is brilliant to see Amey colleagues taking part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out alongside this, making a difference for themselves to RBVE’s work with homeless veterans, and raising a very significant amount in the process. We are really grateful to everyone at Amey who took on this challenge and slept outside during some very cold nights during March this year!”
Amey remains committed to supporting the Armed Forces community and continuing its work as a Forces‑friendly employer and Armed Forces Covenant signatory.
