Amey’s teams rolled up their sleeves and undertook a number of DIY tasks over five days that included painting the entrance lobby to improve first impressions of the new home, repainting two bedrooms, fitting new taps in the utility room installing extra lights and sockets in the property.
David Fawcett, Amey’s Social Value Manager, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our colleagues from our Bradford Street Lighting and Schools team, improving the facilities for Bradford’s first Emmaus community centre.
“Each Amey employee is given two Social Impact Day per year to volunteer their time to a worthy cause, with many choosing to get involved in local community projects that benefit their local area, like Emmaus Bradford. It’s great to see the positive impact our teams are having in their local communities.”
Emmaus Bradford is a homelessness charity looking to provide long-term accommodation, support and work experience to homeless people. The Amey team helped them to prepare the first few rooms. Emmaus Bradford is currently working to raise £160,000 towards a full refurbishment of the property with the ultimate aim of offering 25 rooms and a second chance.
Fran Graham, General Manager at Emmaus Bradford, said: “It's been such a pleasure and extremely helpful to have colleagues from Amey here this month. They’ve done a fantastic job helping us get ready to open the doors to the first few companions this month. We're so grateful to everyone on the team for all the work they've put in.”
