The infrastructure services and engineering consultancy will provide commercial estate management for 164 stations covering Central and South East London, Kent and East Sussex.
Amey Consulting was first appointed to the contract in 2010. Its continued commitment to social value and investment in technology has meant both an enhanced customer experience for station users and the flourishing of small businesses along the route.
Working with Southeastern, Amey Consulting previously delivered the redevelopment of Herne Hill station in South London. Reflecting the needs of the local community and aiming to diversify the retail mix, local independent traders were added to the station. The success stories include Perks & White, a local independent coffee shop, retailer Jo’s House, owned by a local entrepreneur and jewellery designer, and a start-up called Minus 12 who make homemade gelato on site.
The introduction of flexible rental arrangements by Amey Consulting has also supported both the station owner and tenants to deal with the effects of Covid-19 on passenger numbers. Furthermore, investment in technology has driven improvements in client financial reporting and tenant management, while a brand-new website now provides clients with enhanced marketing capability.
Speaking on today’s announcement, Alex Gilbert, Managing Director, Amey Consulting said,
“Railway stations are not just strategic transport assets. They also play an important role within each community, offering employment opportunities for small businesses and a diverse range of services for the local population.
“We are delighted to work closely with Southeastern to implement a strategic approach to commercial lettings. Our team of asset managers will lead sustainable growth across Southeastern’s estate, providing fantastic opportunities to local traders, great customer experience for station users and consistent revenues needed to maintain our country’s stations now and post pandemic.”
The work will be delivered by AmeyTPT, Amey Consulting’s commercial estate team, who specialise in maximising secondary revenues for high footfall facilities such as train, bus and service stations.
