As schools return from their summer break in Scotland, Amey’s Secure Infrastructure business has embarked on a new and fully sustainable cleaning solution across all its FM schools’ operations in Scotland.

The new cleaning model will focus on environmentally friendly practices and cleaning products that use renewable sources to reduce waste and harm to the environment, employees and building users – while still providing high-quality sanitisation and COVID mitigation.

Amey has worked with its supply chain partners to source environmentally friendly chemicals that ensure employees and building users are not exposed to harmful chemicals. Landfill waste is reduced by reusing and refiling existing containers. Water pollution is mitigated from the harsh chemical poured into the watercourse down the drain.

Amey will also invest in new and innovative equipment that will reduce water usage and train employees on the latest sustainable cleaning model. Environmental educational packs will be provided for pupils at the schools maintained by Amey.

The new model is being rolled out in a phased approach over the next few months across Amey’s, Edinburgh, Renfrewshire, Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Glasgow and Clackmannanshire school FM operations.

Frazer Meiklejohn, Operations Director for Scotland, Amey Secure Infrastructure, said: “We want to build real social value and sustainability into all our operations. Protecting the environment is very much at the forefront of Amey’s and our customers' objectives. As an industry, we need to adapt and be innovative to find more sustainable delivery methods. Our goal is to move to a delivery model that focuses on quality, safety and sustainability – reducing harm to our people, building users and the environment.”

Stephanie Quinnin, Director of Soft Services, Amey Secure Infrastructure, added: “The protection of our planet is a key driver to our solutions. Changing the way, we clean buildings is the first of many steps we are making to transform the soft services we deliver. We aim to be a leader in providing sustainable solutions to our clients, where we work together with our people and supply chain partners to embed practical, safe and environmentally friendly ways of working across all our operations.”

Amey has extensive experience delivering facilities and estate management across the critical infrastructure and public services on which the country relies.
