Our Prisons Facilities Team at HMP Styal has spent the past few weeks and months helping prisoners bring their float designs to life - to take part in the city's annual LGBT celebration festival, The Big Weekend.

Manchester Pride’s flagship event takes place in the city’s world-famous Gay Village over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Tens of thousands of people will come together to celebrate, with pride, some of the biggest names in music.

For the past six years, HMP Styal has decorated a float, which then takes part in the parade festival. Huge crowds of people get to see the work that the employees and prisoners have done.

This year our team will support the building of the float, which has been designed by prisoners in the Art Workshop. Our team will work alongside prisoners, helping to make their design a reality - cutting out the woodwork and attaching safety rails, as well as dismantling the float once the event has taken place.
