Our Complex Facilities teams delivered an outstanding contribution in 2025, raising thousands for charities and supporting communities through a wide range of initiatives, from creative fundraising to environmental projects and skills development.

We wanted to generate measurable social value.

What was the challenge?

Amey’s mission is to create positive social impact alongside delivering essential services, but the challenge was how to embed this commitment into everyday operations in a way that was meaningful, measurable, and scalable. We needed to provide colleagues with opportunities to give back to their communities while aligning with our values of sustainability, education, and social responsibility.

Communities across the UK face diverse challenges, from environmental concerns such as river pollution and habitat loss, to social issues like isolation, lack of resources, and limited access to career opportunities. Schools and young people often need support to build confidence and practical skills, while charities rely on fundraising to continue vital work.

The aim was to create a structured programme that empowered colleagues to contribute their time and skills to address these needs. By introducing Social Impact Days, we sought to tackle these challenges head-on, enabling colleagues to volunteer, fundraise, and engage in educational outreach, while demonstrating Amey’s commitment to improving lives and places. The ultimate goal was to generate measurable social value and strengthen community resilience through collective action.

We give colleagues two paid days annually to volunteer, fundraise, or deliver educational outreach.

How did Amey approach the problem?

Amey addressed the challenge by introducing Social Impact Days, giving every full-time colleague two paid days annually to dedicate to volunteering, fundraising, or educational outreach. This structured approach ensured flexibility while maximising impact for communities and the environment.

We leveraged expertise across our Complex Facilities teams, drawing on operational knowledge, local networks, and partnerships with charities, schools, and veteran organisations. Our teams designed and delivered a wide range of initiatives, from river clean-ups and wildlife conservation projects to school engagement programmes that focused on sustainability, teamwork, and career development.

Innovation was at the heart of our approach. Programmes such as “We Solve It” and Positive Futures introduced students to real-world challenges, helping them develop practical skills and confidence. We also supported veterans through tailored mentoring and employment initiatives like Service to Success and Combat2Coffee, creating pathways for meaningful careers.
