Employees from leading infrastructure and engineering company, Amey, have raised more than £115,000 for employee chosen charity Cancer Research UK, whilst celebrating its 100th birthday with the Amey Centenary Challenge.
Amey’s Centenary was an opportunity for employees to celebrate Amey’s 100th birthday, have fun and support Cancer Research UK. Individuals and teams were challenged to take part in activities linked to “100” and over 300 employees got involved in a myriad of challenges.
These included walking 100 miles, doing 100 press ups a day, roller skating 100 kms, doing 100 good deeds, baking 100 cakes, swimming 100 laps a day, going alcohol free for 100 days, a darts challenge and cycling 100 miles amongst many others.
Christopher Keens, who with his team collectively cycled 100 miles around the Preston Guild Wheel, commented, “We really enjoyed the challenge; it was a great opportunity to get together as a team after many months apart. Cancer Research UK is such an important charity, and we were delighted to fundraise over £2000.”
Amey’s partnership with Cancer Research UK began in October 2020 after Amey employees selected the charity as it’s “Employee Chosen Charity” following an all employee vote. The partnership will last for two years and focusses on volunteering, employee wellbeing and fundraising. Amey set a target of fundraising £200,000 across the two years.
Amey employees have embraced the partnership, fundraising over £100,000 in less than eleven months taking part in a series of events and activities including Walk All Over Cancer, an Amey Early Careers Challenge and most recently the Amey Centenary Challenge.
David Fawcett, Amey’s Social Value Manger, said, “Since we began our partnership with Cancer Research UK I have been overwhelmed by the response from our employees. To fundraise over £100,000, especially against the backdrop of Covid, has been incredible and to reach this milestone as we are celebrating our centenary seems very apt.”
Clare Lappin, Partnerships Manager at Cancer Research UK, commented: “We’ve been so touched with how Amey employees have embraced our charity partnership, and particularly blown away with the recent success of the Centenary Challenge. We’re very grateful for Amey’s support and congratulate them on reaching the wonderful milestone of £100,000. The money raised through this partnership will help us continue our vital work to save more lives.”
Amey’s partnership with Cancer Research UK focuses on three core strands: raising awareness of cancer, fundraising and volunteer work. This will help Amey employees have the information they need to be aware of their own and others health, as well as helping Cancer Research UK continue its vital work to beat cancer.
