Amey Consulting has been appointed as design partner for 2 regions of National Highways' 6-year Scheme Delivery Framework, the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme that the government owned company has ever launched.

Amey Consulting secured two regional sub lots:

  • South West (Areas 1 & 2)
  • Midlands (Areas 7 & 9)

The awards expand Amey Consulting’s highways design business into new regions and strengthens its relationship with National Highways.

The announcement builds on its successful Design Services Contracts in Areas 13, 14 and 10 – where the latter still has 2-and-a-half years remaining. In 2020, Amey was awarded the Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance contract (SBIM) for Avonmouth and Severn Bridges by National Highways, which sits in the South West region. An Amey Consulting led design team is also supporting National Highways in the development of the proposal to transform the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine route.

Commenting on the SDF framework, Duncan Smith, Acting Executive Director for Operations at National Highways, said: “Our recent announcement marks the start of a new way to keep the country’s motorways and major A-roads in top condition by delivering the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme we have ever embarked on.

“The Scheme Delivery Framework will allow us to deliver these vital activities, ensuring the Strategic Road Network remains safe and serviceable, so road users can continue enjoying the benefits of smooth, reliable journeys.”

Speaking on the announcement, Alex Gilbert, Managing Director, Amey Consulting said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework, working together with National Highways to keep England’s motorways and major A roads running safely and smoothly. Investment in our major roads network not only creates a more efficient transport system, but it is crucial in supporting economic growth, connecting our regional towns and cities, and ultimately improving people’s lives.

“We are proud to be the second largest design provider to National Highways on this framework and these works will be delivered by our ever-expanding design team across the UK. Key to our successes over the past year has been a break from traditional rigid working patterns, and a move to hybrid and flexible working, crucial to attracting and nurturing a diverse set of people and skills”.

2021 has been a very strong year for Amey Consulting, who were recently appointed to the £72.5m Scotland Excel Civil Engineering and Technical Consultancy Framework, as well as the £300m South East Wales Technical & Professional Services Framework and the £36m South West and Mid Wales Framework.
