Amey, the leading infrastructure services and engineering company, has committed to reducing its carbon emissions and will reach carbon net zero by 2040.

The business is marking world Earth Day today by setting out its roadmap to achieve this goal.

Amey has set itself two ambitious targets:

  • Achieve Scope 1 and 2 Net Zero by 2035 with a minimum of 80% absolute reduction on a 2019 baseline
  • Be fully net zero including Scope 3 by 2040

To achieve these science-based targets, Amey will be following four principles: reduce, transition, innovate and engage.

As an engineering company that delivers vital services across the built environment and transport infrastructure, as well as energy and utilities management, Amey recognises the importance of reducing its impact and supporting clients to achieve their carbon and climate change ambitions.

Emily Davies, Head of Social Impact, Amey, commented: “We believe every organisation must demonstrate leadership by both committing to net zero and putting greater pace into reducing absolute emissions.

“Globally, there is an increasing urgency to reduce our collective impact on the world’s climate. We support the UN Global Goals and call for action on climate change. We share their ambition for investment in low carbon innovation and infrastructure. We recognise the importance of focusing that investment on sectors that support sustainable growth, create fair and employment and accelerate decarbonisation of the economy.

“Our Roadmap to Net Zero sets out our commitment to this global challenge and our approach to achieving our own carbon goals.”

Amey’s progress so far includes establishing a carbon and climate change working group, realising a company car option list that comprises only of full electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids or petrol/electric hybrids and procuring 100% renewable energy.
