Amey Consulting has won the Management Consultancies Association Awards 2019 for best ‘Performance Improvement in the Public Sector’.

Working collaboratively with Network Rail, from train dispatch staff at the front line to the CEO in the boardroom, our Consulting team led a transformation in their thinking behind small minute delays, leading the change with Network Rail, and transforming how stations work to reduce delays.

The award-winning project delivered a 40% reduction in delays within the first month of rolling out changes to stations, giving a better passenger experience and an initial net saving of £7 million over 10 years. Our team drove an approach focusing on passengers, sensitive to the commercial pressures of a fragmented network, and involving everyone in the value chain. In doing so, we helped Network Rail focus on seconds rather than minutes and provided them with the knowledge, training, tools and confidence to drive operational excellence every day. The South East route is now amongst the highest performing routes in the UK.

Nicola Hindle, Managing Director of Amey’s Consulting and Rail business said; “We are absolutely thrilled to have won this industry leading award for our project with Network Rail. Our innovative approach had to be focussed on a ‘data led’ consulting input, utilising our broad knowledge of experienced railway operators, engineers and asset managers. Our practical consulting approach, embedding ourselves with the operational teams, using advanced data analytics, and driving end-to-end change in a way that visualised the problem and allowed our clients to support and then take over from us.”
