David Fawcett, Customer Services Manager for Amey’s Hampshire Highways contract, has been acknowledged for his outstanding role in leading Amey’s involvement in the local community.

Last Thursday, David was named as winner of the Outstanding Individual Corporate Leadership category at the National CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Awards in London.

Under David’s leadership, Amey’s 250 employees in Hampshire have been frequent participants in community projects and champions of local causes, supporting 26 charities and social enterprises, through 400 volunteering days and fundraising events, such as two bike rides which raised over £5,500 for Naomi House Children’s Hospice and children’s charity Rainbow Centre.

With a passion for corporate social responsibility and strongly held belief that the actions of Amey’s staff in helping the local community should change lives for the better, David is renowned for his enthusiasm and infectious energy. So much so that many Hampshire staff now view such community-based work as a core part of their role. In a 2015 survey, 97% said “Amey supports the communities in which it works” – the highest score in the UK for Amey.

Inspiring and exhorting others, David’s mission is to help those who face the biggest social hurdles. He constantly promotes Amey’s Apprenticeship programme, targeting areas of high unemployment, organising placements for people with learning disabilities and ex-offenders.

He views work with young people as particularly important and has continually provided vital support as a mentor and critical friend. As a STEM advocate, he has attended numerous careers and schools events and provides workshops on drafting CVs, preparing for interviews and meeting customer needs.

David’s work has won several accolades for Amey in Hampshire, including Community Contribution of the Year (Portsmouth News Business Excellence 2015 ), CSR Team of the Year (Third Sector Business Charity Awards 2015) and Hampshire Investors in Young People Gold Award(Hampshire County Council).

On winning the award, David said: “I am delighted to have won this award which acknowledges the commitment, professionalism and support of the whole Amey team in Hampshire. I am very proud of what we have achieved over the last few years and am looking forward to further developing social value initiatives in the future”.

Paul Anderson, Account Director  for Amey in Hampshire  added “ I am delighted that David has won this prestigious award. Community engagement is at the heart of all we do in Amey and David commitment to this important area shines through”.
