Amey collaborating at a health and safety conference in the South East.

A team on our Facilities Management Regional Prime South East contract recently held their Safety Health Environment and Fire (SHEF) Professional Meeting as part of their regular Health and Safety forums.

The event brings together the client, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and Supply Chain Partners to improve Health and Safety across the contract through collaborative working and sharing of best practice

The eleventh meeting in the series took place in Aldershot and was chaired by South East SHEF Specialist, Stephen Matthews with the main theme and focus being on introducing Amey’s new Zero Code for working safely, Significant Incident Management and Reporting, Dust Control Measures and Chemical Safety.

The main theme of the day was Zero Code and what it means for staff and supply chain working on the National Housing Prime and Regional Prime contracts. Zero Code is a simple work code that highlights the key actions everyone must take to achieve zero harm for all employees, clients, supply chain and members of the public. Its aim is to focus attention on encouraging and developing correct and safe behaviours, and it applies to everyone who works for and with Amey.

The specialist speaker on the day was Justin Pervy, DipHex Chemical Safety, who presented on chemical first aid and the steps to take. To help bring the subject to life, Justin demonstrated the dangerous and harmful effects of corrosive chemical exposure can have on the body as well as the impressive properties of how Diphoterine® Solution washes, deals with the aggressive action and penetration of the Corrosive and Irritant Chemical in a serious situation.

The meeting also provided a forum to openly discuss good and bad practice, promote safety culture, Amey expectations following our integration into the wider Amey business and any current news from the Health Safety Environment and Quality (HSEQ) teams and relevant bodies.

Ricky Andrews, Tivoli Compliance Manager, “Thanks for the presentation. Just wanted to say how impressed I was by the DipHex presentation and Justin’s delivery. I certainly learnt a lot from it and it has certainly been one of my focal points today whilst talking to people within our business.”

Blake May, Stulz Compliance Manager, said, “Thanks again for having me along last week, it was very informative and the presentation about dust was very useful to me and my development.”
