Amey, who provide highways maintenance services across Hampshire, has supported the 6th Gosport Air Scout Group as part of its community engagement programme.
A team of twelve Amey employees spent a day volunteering at the Scout Group’s new headquarters in Acorn Close, Gosport to ensure the buildings are accessible to visitors by laying a path around the building and fitting access ramps. Amey has previously supported the Scout Group by building the foundations for the new structure.
Lisa Young, from the Scout Group, said: “The team from Amey were fantastic. We can't begin to tell you how grateful we are and how fantastic the completed works look.”
The Amey team were invited back to the site where they were thanked by representatives from the Scout Group and some of the young people who use the new headquarters.
Hannah Craven, a Scout, aged 13 said: “It’s fantastic that the new Scout building looks so amazing. It’s really smart, and will be great for the whole Scout Group. The old building was dark, smelly and cold but this one is brilliant. Everybody has worked really hard to help build it, we have done lots of fundraising and been helped by so many volunteers and supporters. I can’t wait for the last few bits to be finished so that we can move into our new home.”
Amey offers a Community Involvement Day programme, where every employee is allowed one paid day a year to work in the local community for a charitable or community organisation.
David Fawcett, Customer Services Manager for Amey, said: “Our team really enjoy spending time supporting the local community and giving something back to charities that are close their hearts. Last year, over 75% of our local workforce took part in a community day, and 2015 is proving to be no different. We were delighted to be able to assist the 6th Gosport Air Scout Group again to improve accessibility for all of the users of the new headquarters, which will hopefully help for years to come.”
Amey provide highways maintenance services across the county on behalf of Hampshire County Council.
