Hampshire’s high vis heroes star in TV documentary series

Tune in and watch Hampshire highways teams take a staring role in, Stop! Roadworks Ahead; a brand new documentary series on Channel 5, starting on Monday 13 July at 8pm, for six weeks.

Stop! Roadworks Ahead, is an exhilarating new series which follows workmen in Hampshire and five other councils, as they take on the challenge of fixing the nations roads and keep traffic moving. It’s a secret behind the scenes look at the life of a road worker and the challenges they face.   

Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Economy Transport and Environment, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “Taking part in this documentary will show thousands of viewers the hard work, dedication and professionalism that goes into keeping Hampshire’s roads open and our traffic and public moving. Although we feature in all the episodes, Hampshire’s starring role comes to fruition in episodes five and six, which are due to be aired on 10 and 17 August – so make sure you stay tuned in.”

The film crew followed workers from Hampshire over the winter of 2014/15 covering stories from a fallen down tree at 4am, an overflowing pond which threatens to flood a school in Andover, to resurfacing a busy road in Gosport and the reconstruction of a motorway bank in danger of collapsing in Hedge End.

David Ogden, Account Director from Amey, said: “Our aim is always to keep the people who live, work and travel in Hampshire moving, although we appreciate that the nature and location of our works can sometimes cause delays, which can be frustrating for drivers. We hope that the documentary will provide a valuable insight into the reality of the difficult job our road workers face, whilst doing our best to ensure the local roads are fit for purpose to support the local community and the economic growth of Hampshire.”
