On the occasion of World Safety Day, the CEO of Ferrovial Services described the strategy, vision and priorities in health and safety that the company is implementing in order to achieve zero workplace accidents. Safety and health are the number one priority for Ferrovial Services. The global COVID-19 pandemic has spurred the company to intensify its efforts in the field of safety and health so as to guarantee both the delivery of its essential services and the protection of all employees at all times.
“Our top priority is to keep our co-workers safe and protect everyone who uses our services. Getting home safe and sound is the primary objective of the work day. In recent years, we have enhanced safety across the board in all the geographies where we operate so as to substantially reduce all accident rates. Nevertheless, we must continue advancing towards the goal of zero accidents,” concluded Fidel López Soria. The primary goal of Ferrovial Services is to develop a culture of zero tolerance to situations that might produce accidents, at each and every one of our workplaces.
Program to reduce accidents on the road: +VIAL
Road maintenance is a risky job involving dangerous situations, for example, when there is an accident or when upgrading the pavement without closing the road to traffic. It is a critical service that carries additional risk, since our employees' safety depends not only on their own decisions, but also on the behavior of the drivers who are using the infrastructure. For this reason, in Spain Ferrovial Services has implemented “+VIAL”, a program to reduce accidents on the road, supported by a multidisciplinary team of professionals from such areas as safety, operations, procurement, IT and innovation. This initiative is structured in three major areas: awareness-raising, information and training; control and oversight; and institutional cooperation.
