Amey, the leading provider of full life-cycle engineering, operations, and decarbonisation solutions for UK infrastructure, has won the ‘Creating Better Places’ category at this year’s Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) Awards, recognising its sustainability commitments to people and the environment.

The CIHT Creating Better Places Award recognises organisations that demonstrate exceptional achievements in designing and implementing schemes or projects that create sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban environments. Amey claimed the top prize amongst some fierce competition for its Liverpool City Centre Connectivity (LCCC) project.

The LCCC initiative saw Amey collaborate with Liverpool City Council to enhance movement within the city centre by creating new public spaces, cycle routes, blue-green infrastructure, and reconfiguring bus networks. Taking a people-first approach, Amey repurposed road infrastructure to accommodate and prioritise pedestrians, cyclists, and buses. The project exemplified the seamless integration between engineering and architecture to address modern societal challenges whilst also preserving local heritage.

The CIHT Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions made by the Highways and Transport sector. This latest award recognition follows a successful period of award wins for Amey’s LCCC project. This includes Amey’s redesign of Liverpool Lime Street winning the 'Active Travel Scheme of the Year' award at the Highway Awards as well as the ‘Large Project’ category at the CIHT North West Awards. This also comes hot on the heels of the company’s recent triumph at the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident (RoSPA) Awards, where Amey picked up five gongs for its unwavering commitment to health and safety.

Alex Gilbert, Managing Director, Consulting, Amey, said:

“We’re delighted to have won the CIHT Creating Better Places Award and it is testament to all the hard work our colleagues have put into enhancing Liverpool City Centre to create a more walkable and sustainable environment for all.

“This award recognition underscores our commitment in delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that enhance lives and bring lasting positive impacts on our communities.”
