Amey, a provider of critical facilities and asset management services to the public sector, has further enhanced its energy capabilities by successfully achieving ISO 50001, the international standard for energy management systems. Amey is the first FM and infrastructure organisation to be awarded the certification as a delivery team, meaning Amey can offer services to clients under ISO standards.

ISO 50001 is designed to support organisations by providing a practical way to improve energy use, through the development of an energy management system (EnMS). Amey’s certification provides the business with a formal framework that will make it easier for contracts to integrate energy management into operational activity - improving quality and environmental management.

Regulatory requirements and rising cost mean businesses need to be more efficient and manage energy data in leaner ways - while also cutting consumption and emissions. ISO 50001 will enable Amey teams to offer clients focused continuous performance improvement that also supports their net zero carbon requirements. These include identifying risks, reducing costs and environmental impact, increasing asset life, and helping to manage supply chain performance.

The system also supports clients by aligning their asset management to ISO50001 and delivering compliance against mandatory schemes such as ESOS, CCA, SECR, and UK ETS.

Director of Professional Services, Dave O’Shaughnessy, commented: “As a business Amey has been working to this system and standards for a while so it is fantastic that we are finally receiving the formal certification. Energy transition lies at the heart of everything we deliver – to have a formal framework to align our activities to gives our customers the assurance they need that their buildings are working towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

Head of Energy, Lewis Welch said: “Our ISO 50001 journey began almost two years ago, when we started to develop the solutions that would improve the performance of our client’s buildings and assets. The certification has led the way for more meaningful and honest conversations with our clients on the topic of energy transition and show how we can support them on not only achieving cost reductions but also in their move towards a net zero future.”

Amey was awarded the certification at a ceremony hosted by the BSI.
