Amey is delighted to announce that its Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Director for Transport Infrastructure, Joe Docherty has been appointed as Vice Chair for Safer Highways.
The appointment, which saw Joe start the role this month (May 2021), is a “fantastic edition” to the team, shared CEO for Safer Highways, Kevin Robinson.
Joe has nearly 25 years’ experience as a HSEQ professional joining Amey in 2013, after many years working within two of the largest Scottish local authorities. During the last eight years at Amey, Joe has supported a number of sectors.
Now, as a member of the Executive Team for Transport Infrastructure, Joe leads on ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of the Highways, Waste Collections, Power Major Projects and Rail sectors which span geographically across the UK and Ireland.
Joe Docherty, HSEQ Director for Transport Infrastructure at Amey, said: “It’s a privilege to have been invited to assume the role of Vice Chair for Safer Highways. Having worked closely with the Chair Martin Worthington, the Board and the CEO since the launch of Safer Highways, I am very proud of the work of our members and the commitment shown to bring together the highways sector to improve the safety and wellbeing of our road workers, and those using the network which remains our sectors top priority.
“In my role as Vice Chair I’m looking forward to driving forward our Stamp it Out campaign and realising the real difference we can make collectively to the safety of our workers and providing support to our members in bringing this to fruition. It’s an exciting time for Safer Highways and I’m delighted to be involved in its growth and the impact we can make together.”
As Vice Chair for Safer Highways, Joe will work alongside the Chair and CEO, taking responsibility for the strategic direction of Safer Highways, ensuring that industry safety remains a focus, challenging the sector to look ahead and deliver the safe future our sector deserves.
Kevin Robinson, CEO for Safer Highways, said: “I speak for the whole of the membership of Safer Highways when I say I am delighted to welcome Joe to the role of Vice Chairman.
“Throughout what has been an incredibly difficult last 12 months, his support, along with that of the Chairman have been unwavering.
“When it became apparent that the role of vice chair was to become available there was only one candidate I had in mind. I would like to thank Alan for his efforts over the last few years.
“Safer Highways was formed in 2018 with a vision for the highways sector to become a beacon of best practice for the good management of all health, safety and wellbeing issues, that leaders in other sectors look to for inspiration and from the outset Joe’s leadership has been pivotal to everything we have achieved.”
