Amey, as part of its GEOAmey joint venture, has been awarded a £632m contract to provide Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (PECS) for ‘The North’. The agreement, awarded by The Ministry of Justice, spans a 10-year period commencing August 2020.

The contract will see GEOAmey transport approximately 250,000 people across the criminal justice system in Wales, the Midlands and the North of England each year. More than 1,400 people will be employed across the contract at 10 vehicle bases and 110 courts, carrying out transfers between prisons and managing court custody suites and dock areas.

Amanda Fisher, CEO of Amey, said: "I’m delighted that the Ministry of Justice has chosen to continue working with GEOAmey for the PECS generation 4 contract following our successful 8-year partnership. We look forward to building on the strong foundations we have established during that time, including enhanced responsiveness, flexibility, care for the individual and value for money."

GEOAmey already has a well-established track record as a leading provider of court custody and prisoner escort services in England and Wales, having closely worked with the Ministry of Justice on PECS since 2011. Amey also brings a wealth of experience in delivering secure infrastructure services across the UK for clients such as MoD and HMPPS.

Following commencement of the Scottish Court Custody and Prisoner Escorting Service on behalf of the Scottish Prison Service and Criminal Justice Partners in January 2019, GEOAmey is now the largest provider of court custody and prisoner escort services in the United Kingdom.
