Amey’s Prison Facilities Management and Project Teams has completed work to install a new all-weather sports pitch at HMP Liverpool.
The funding for the new pitch was secured as part of the Twinning Project led by former Arsenal chief executive David Dein, which looks to use the power of football to better prepare people for release from prison, by pairing professional clubs with prisons to help tackle reoffending after sentences are served.
The completion of the project means both men and prison staff at HMP Liverpool will be able to benefit from the new high-quality sports facilities which will be used for reactional activities that support health and wellbeing.
The new pitch will also play a part in supporting rehabilitation by providing a real-life training environment for men undertaking their ground maintenance qualifications in conjunction with HMP Liverpool’s Twinning Project partner Tranmere Rovers.
The two-month project has been delivered on time and within budget as part of the ongoing safety and decency programme being undertaken by HMP Liverpool and their partners to improve living and working standards at the prison.
Working closely with HMPPS, the Governor, and supply chain partners, Amey developed a detailed end-to-end improvement programme which included building and asset surveying, design solutions, project management and supply chain expertise.
As part of the safety and decency improvement programme, Amey also led on a comprehensive refurbishment of the cell accommodation and staff areas in two wings, which included setting up a scheme working with prison staff to train prisoners to carry out renovations within HMP Liverpool as part of the prison’s purposeful activity programme.
