Carl Flint, who works on Amey’s United Utilities Contract, has won an award at the recent Street Works UK Awards 2017 held at the House of Commons. The award was announced as part of the Innovation Excellence category and recognised his outstanding contribution to street works by becoming a safe dig mentor.
Carl has renovated his van in such a way to demonstrate all aspects of safe digging practices, and visits gangs across the network to coach and mentor them into safer, more effective working practices. Having worked on the wastewater network for 19 years as a civils team leader, Carl is considered a role model by many of his peers for his continuous drive to improve the way the teams operate on the contract.
On winning the award, Carl Flint said: “I was so proud to represent Amey at such a prestigious event. I believe the award for outstanding contribution to Street Works has been won not just by myself but by the whole team who have worked so hard for many months.”
The Street Works UK Awards have become a standard in the utilities industry and showcased examples of industry innovation and best practice, with the aim of encouraging practices that drive up standards and reduce disruption. The winners were chosen by an independent panel of experts, and all winning entries will be used as examples of best practice throughout the road and street works industry.
Bob Gallienne, Chief Executive of Street Works, has said: “I would like to congratulate the winners and everyone shortlisted for a Street Works UK Award. It is so important and enjoyable to bring together these examples of innovation, collaboration and excellence, and to celebrate the work that is going on right across the industry.
High quality street works play a vital role delivering and maintaining UK infrastructure which is critical to improving UK productivity, competitiveness and balanced economic growth. So it is to the industry’s credit and UK plc’s benefit that we continue to deliver excellence and push forward the bounds of how street works are delivered.”
Zak Haworth, United Utilities Waste Water Account Manager at Amey, said: “Winning this award shows the passion and hard work from the whole team on the Amey United Utilities account. The safety of our employee’s is paramount to us all, and winning this award demonstrates this with Carl leading the way in our drive for excellence and keeping people safe every day. I’m really proud of being a part of a team that continually strives to push boundaries and improve, keeping our valued workforce safe every day.”
