Amey, one of today’s leading engineering consultants and public services providers, has joined the Thames Tideway Tunnel Alliance. Bringing together our expertise in IT systems integration with our inherent understanding of infrastructure, Amey will help enable the delivery and operation of a vital project to upgrade the sewage system capacity across London.

Working alongside the alliance’s three main works construction contractors, Amey will integrate a range of software process control systems and communications equipment. This will ensure that the technology deployed by the teams on site throughout construction is joined up, managed and monitored to provide an effective operation.

Our specialist team will achieve this by connecting the new and existing instrumentation and control assets such as flow meters and level controllers to a number of control centres, including integration with Thames Water’s existing SCADA system.

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive of Amey said: “Thames Tideway Tunnel will be one of the most complex water infrastructure projects in the UK over the next few years. Our consulting experience built up across utilities, highways, and rail is now being applied to the water industry to design and manage the systems that will turn the tunnel project into a fully functional sewage operation.

“We are delighted to be joining the Alliance and are looking forward to playing a critical role in this project that will protect the Thames from further pollution and provide a long term, sustainable environment for the river.”

Mark Sneesby, Chief Operating Officer of Thames Tideway Tunnel, said: “It was essential for us to award the system integration contract early in the project to ensure effective collaboration during construction. For such a hugely vital project with 24 construction sites and three main works contractors, Amey has a key part to play in the smooth delivery of the project.

“We were thoroughly impressed with their bid and look forward to working with them as part of the Thames Tideway Tunnel alliance.”

Amey’s niche IT systems expertise, developed within a business that knows and understands infrastructure will be fundamental to this project. The systems integrator team brings a wealth of internal experience to the project and will draw on Amey’s breadth and depth of services, providing a complete solution for Thames Tideway Tunnel.
