The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has awarded several new contracts for highways works, two of which include bridge works, winter service and road resurfacing with expected savings of more than £200,000 over two years.

Cabinet approved the appointment of Amey to provide highways and bridge works (including winter service) for a period of two years with the option to extend for a further year subject to satisfactory performance.

The new contracts replace the existing contract with Balfour Beatty Living Places which comes to an end on 1 June 2012.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and environment, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to award the new contracts to Amey and the other contractors to provide all our highways and bridge works as well as our winter servicing.

"The largest contract with Amey has resulted in a saving of 15% on the current contract which represents more than £200,000 over two years - while continuing to fulfil our commitment to deliver good quality, cost effective services for our residents.

"Not only will we be getting the best possible value for our highways schemes but we will be supporting Localism by enabling other stakeholders to use the contracts too."

In addition the council has let contracts to Eurovia Infrastructure Ltd (road resurfacing); Bellstan Ltd (road markings); HMS Decorative Surfacing Ltd (high friction surfacing) and May Gurney Ltd (road signs).

Cllr Bicknell added: "All of these new contracts will provide better value for our residents."
