Leading public services provider Amey has today further strengthened its position as one of the UK’s biggest rail services providers after acquiring the national rail consultancy of WYG Engineering Limited (‘WYG’), part of the WYG Group (formerly, White Young Green).
The agreement sees Amey secure almost 100 skilled professionals, ranging from specialist designers and senior managers as well as a portfolio of existing contracts from WYG including a number of Professional Services Frameworks for multi-disciplinary design services.
The move marks a further boost for Amey’s rail consulting capability, which has developed significantly in the past few years and has grown in headcount from 200 in 2006 to nearly 1,000 people today. The acquisition enhances Amey’s civils and stations capability and extends its share of the rail market
Mel Ewell, chief executive of Amey, said: “This strategic acquisition shows that Amey is committed to achieving sustained growth across the business with a real emphasis on the rail market.
“We are pleased to welcome these additional experts from WYG, who bring strong partnerships with major rail customers as well as expertise and knowledge of the rail market. We look forward to integrating their capability into the business and further developing our rail offering.”
Paul Hamer, Chief Executive Officer, WYG Group, said: “Amey has identified a synergy between its business aspirations and our rail profile and capabilities. Both Amey and WYG believe the opportunity to integrate our rail team into the wider Amey business is best for all parties including our respective clients.”
Amey, an award winning consultancy, is a leading provider on a number of strategic rail contracts including the PSERV Professional Services framework for multi-disciplinary design services. The move will further increase Amey’s rail geographical footprint.
The additional capability brought in from WYG will further strengthen Amey’s delivery of these contracts and its offering to the rail market. Amey has a non-traditional approach with its consulting portfolio benefiting the client in terms of efficiencies, more informed solutions and better long-term maintenance knowledge.
