Amey’s support to our Armed Forces and their families

Remembrance Day is a time for reflection and at Amey, we’re proud to support our brave and courageous Service personnel, not only in the work we do within our Defence contracts, but also with our fundraising and Forces friendly policies.

Volunteering days

We offer all our employees a Community Involvement Day each year and encourage them to identifiy a project that will directly benefit their local military community. This year our FMDJ teams, along with our supply chain partners, have refurbished nurseries, painted youth clubs, tackled overgrown gardens and revamped and repainted numerous play-parks. We’ve had volunteers supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and others who have given up their time to help out at local fundraising events.

£200,000 raised so far for SSAFA

In 2016 we entered in a charity partnership with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, chosen because it encompasses all three of the services. We made a huge commitment to raise £250,000 within the five years of our contracts and wondered if we’d set our sights too high, but this month we’re absolutely delighted to have passed the £200,000 mark with our fundraising.

Achieving this monumental milestone has only been possible thanks to the generosity of our employees and supply chain partners. Over the last three years, they’ve supported SSAFA’s Big Brew Up, climbed mountains, trekked across rocky terrains, held family fun days, made epic journeys on bicycles and taken part in raffles and fundraising events. Two of our Senior Managers have even become SSAFA mentors themselves so they can offer practical guidance and advice to those leaving the Services and struggling with the transition from military to civilian life.

Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award

Earlier this year, we were awarded the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award, for being recognised as a ‘Forces friendly’ organisation. We recognise the value that ex-Service leavers, Reservists, veteran and military families bring to our business and almost 10% of our employees have a Service background or links to the military. Our Reservists are able to take time off to carry out their training and we grant leave for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner’s deployment. We also look to offer an interview for any Reservist or Veteran who applies for a position within our organisation.

We are passionate about the work we do and proud that we are able to demonstrate our support and admiration for the men and women who do so much to provide our security.
