Amey, who provide highways maintenance services across Hampshire, got on their bikes to raise funds and awareness for local charity, the Rainbow Centre.

A team of 15 Amey employees took part in an exercise bike marathon at Hampshire County Council’s offices in Winchester. Each rider cycled for 30 minutes with the group riding a cumulative total of 232 kilometres in 7 and a half hours. The event provided an opportunity for Amey to highlight the important work carried out by the Rainbow Centre as well as raise much needed funds.

David Fawcett, Customer Services Manager in Hampshire for Amey, said: “We are delighted to be assisting the Rainbow Centre and the important support they provide to young people and adults. I was impressed with the enthusiasm our team put into the bike marathon and the way everyone has come together to help this local charity. These events further cement the partnership between Amey and the Rainbow Centre.”

Lara Bull, Centre Director for the Rainbow Centre, said: “Amey continue to be great supporters of the Centre and are always looking for new ways to help us raise funds as well as promoting the work we do. It is with help such as this that we can continue to keep our doors open and our services accessible to all who need us. It is no exaggeration to say that Amey continue to go above and beyond with their support.”

This event along with a 25 mile bike ride, organised by Amey, on Sunday 5 July hopes to raise £5,000 for the charity.

These two events follow previous activities with the charity, including the construction of a permanent emergency exit to the rear of the Centre, a brand new entrance to ease access to the building for mobility impaired users and the naming of a gritter after the charity.

The two exercise bikes used at the marathon were kindly supplied by David Lloyd Studios Winchester and Winchester Racquets and Fitness as part of both fitness clubs support for local charities.
