This week, we join Transport Scotland in celebrating ten years of the Trunk Road Incident Support Service (TRISS). The patrol service for Scotland’s busiest trunk roads and motorways was pioneered and trialled by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, through our special projects team in 2005, before it was rolled out across Scotland’s road network.
The TRISS crews provide critical support to Scotland’s’ road users by rescuing thousands of stranded motorists, removing numerous hazards from the roads and helping to keep traffic moving by delivering up to date reliable traffic updates.
Amey’s Gordon Allan speaks of the service that he helped establish for Transport Scotland in 2005: “Ten years ago our team worked with Transport Scotland and the Police to develop a unique trunk roads service to support motorists and the emergency services with the ultimate aim to keep Scotland moving and improve safety.
“As a key partner to Transport Scotland in the early scoping, development and pilot of the service I’m extremely proud that TRISS has evolved into a service which is fundamental to Scotland’s roads, improving safety for road users and reducing the impact of disruption caused by incidents.”
Amey works with Transport Scotland across a number of highways contracts, delivering the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the motorways and trunk roads in South East Scotland as well as the Forth Bridges. Together with our Ferrovial sister companies and other partners, working in consortium as Scottish Roads Partnership, we are involved in project financing, engineering design and O&M for Transport Scotland’s £500M project to upgrade the central motorway network; the M8 73 M74 DBFO.
