Peterborough’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Re-use facility is a finalist in the National Recycling Awards.
The facility, managed by Amey on behalf of Peterborough City Council, has been shortlisted in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycler of the Year category.
The Fengate-based service reconditions a range of electrical goods to sell to local residents and charitable organisations, and since 2012, has enabled over 2,250 appliances be re-used in homes across the city.
Reusing these has saved 563 tons of white goods– the equivalent of almost three 747 jumbo jets – saving the city roughly £56,000 in additional landfill taxes.
Kieron King, Amey’s Principal Operations Manager in Peterborough said, “Being finalists in this category is a real honour and recognises the fantastic work carried out by the team at the WEEE Reuse facility.
“It also demonstrates the effective partnership working between Peterborough City Council and Amey, and the outstanding contribution to recycling and waste management in the city.”
EMAP, who run the prestigious National Recycling Awards said; “The winners, and those who are shortlisted, are the very best in the industry.”
The winners will be announced at the National Recycling Awards on 1 July at the London Hilton Hotel.
