Annual Leave

Who: Employees should formally book annual leave with their People Manager through the People Portal, and if relevant Kronos.

  • Employees can view a user guide on requesting or amending periods leave in the People Portal via the links on this page. N.B - if you cannot access the guide, please speak with your People Manager.

What: Annual leave is your holiday entitlement as stated in your terms and conditions.  Full time employees are entitled to a statutory minimum of 5.6 weeks holiday, this includes 8 Bank Holidays.  If you are a part time employee your holiday entitlement is pro rated and should be requested in hours.

Why: You will receive any contractual fixed pay and allowances you normally receive whilst on annual leave, plus an additional element of Average Holiday Pay (AHP).  AHP considers any adhoc allowances or payments, such as overtime, you have been paid over the previous 52 weeks or 12 weeks if you are a term time only employee.  If you do not formally book annual leave, AHP will not be paid for your period of leave.  AHP frequently asked questions can be viewed via the links on this page.

When: Your annual leave should be requested and approved prior to it being taken.  AHP will be paid in the month following your leave, providing your leave has been booked and approved in the People Portal / Kronos  It is important that if you do not take scheduled leave, that this is also cancelled to correct your holiday entitlement and ensure that you are not overpaid.

  • People Managers can view a user on administering leave on behalf of an employee in the People Portal via the links on this page.

How:  Annual leave can be booked via the People Portal or Kronos, if you are unable to access the People Portal or Kronos ask your People Manager to record it on your behalf.  If you are a part time employee you must also remember to book your Bank Holiday days.
