Catherine Whiteside

Grounds Manager

Catherine’s flourishing in a military environment and large company culture.

As a Grounds Manager in our defence team, Catherine’s got a huge patch to cover.

From the Midlands to the tip of Scotland, she manages the contractors who cut the grass, tend the hedges, plant the shrubs and banish the weeds on 70 military bases. In the winter they clear the ice and snow and grit the roads.

The same standards – down to the length of the grass – are applied at every site, ensuring that the training grounds, airfields and outdoor facilities are in the best condition for our armed forces, all year round.

Catherine works in a male-dominated world but knows she’s respected for her horticultural expertise. “I always feel supported. Amey truly embraces equality and diversity.”

At Amey, we’re committed to delivering excellence to all our customers. The same standards – down to the length of the grass – are applied at every site, ensuring that the training grounds, airfields and outdoor facilities are in the best condition for our armed forces, all year round.

Having once been self-employed, she enjoys being part of a big organisation. “I know Amey can offer everything I need, from training to health and safety to the employee advice service. I haven’t used it but it’s nice to know it’s there.”
