Integrated Transport Operations and Maintenance
Amey began operating in Australia in 2013 following the award of two ground breaking operations and maintenance contracts in Queensland and New South Wales, where Amey leveraged its unique experience in delivering asset management services on existing road networks.
In Sydney, in joint venture partnership with Ventia and Boral Construction Materials, we are the stewards of the Sydney South Zone road network, managing an area that extends from Sydney Harbour Bridge, west to Parramatta and south to Waterfall. This 7-year; c$1bn contract provides asset management, design and maintenance services across an area that includes over 2,000 lane kilometres and associated roadside assets, 201 bridges and 10 tunnels, including major structures such as the Anzac Bridge and the Mascot Tunnel under Sydney Airport.
In 2018, in joint venture with our sister company Broadspectrum, we commenced design, asset management and maintenance services as part of the Netflow consortium, delivering the $1.8bn Western Roads Upgrade PPP in Melbourne. This was the first project of its kind awarded using an availability style public private partnership for an arterial road network in Australia. Our joint venture is delivering road and structure rehabilitation for the initial 3-year phase of the project and will operate and maintain the road network, including more than 100 critical structures, for 23 years.
Engineering and Design Services
In 2015 Amey established engineering hubs in Sydney and Melbourne, where our technical experts support our local clients by offering design services that leverage international best practice from our major engineering hubs across the UK. We also maintain dedicated local design teams, which are embedded in our operational contracts, and are responsible for delivering a portfolio of infrastructure and structural enhancements projects of varying scale and complexity annually to meet needs of these contracts.
Our engineering and design services extend across highways, rail, aviation, utilities and other specialist services, including ITS and rail systems. On more complex, high profile projects such as the detailed design services we delivered for the M4 Smart Motorway, and the TfNSW Automatic Train Protection Project, we flex our resources dynamically by sourcing in our specialist global expertise. Typically, we have over 100 engineers dedicated to delivering engineering design services in Australia at any given time.
With safety as our number one priority, we know what it takes to build and maintain assets and operate networks effectively and efficiently to meet the needs of the travelling public. This inherent knowledge is harnessed through the technical development of our designs to ensure our solutions continually consider future asset safety, reliability and sustainability for the benefit of asset owners, operators, constructors, maintainers and the end users.
We commenced our advisory services in Australia in 2015, by drawing on the unique learnings of our broader engineering, asset management and operational businesses, to help clients answer critical questions and address their business challenges.
Our local consultants have access to the UK’s largest team of dedicated technology and data experts. We use this resource pool to enable clients achieve more for less, by combining data analytics with technology solutions and our operational skills to generate clear strategic direction, assess value, and design operational structures that respond to the changing needs of the built environment.
Our expert consultants have a strong grounding in infrastructure strategy, planning, delivery and operations enabling them to apply their experience to many of the asset and technology challenges faced by clients today.
Our team has worked with a range of Australian clients, including Sydney Trains, Yarra Trams, RMS, and Melbourne Airport offering consulting services that range from business case and value for money assessments, strategic asset management, design and implementation of asset management systems, operating model design, process and governance improvement, the application of data analytics to critical assets, and the trialling of new and emerging technologies, such as autonomous vehicles for TfNSW.
In 2014 Amey brought the full range of our asset management and data analytics consultancy services to the USA. These services have helped our clients develop a better appreciation of the need to protect and preserve the assets they look to develop and already own.
From our base in the Greater New York area our focus is on the transportation sector, most notably the passenger rail and highways sectors.
In the highways sector we have worked in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to manage and maintain the interstate network in and around Dallas.
We work with clients that operate some of the most highly demanded passenger services in the country. For example, we continue to assist Long Island Rail Road in the optimization of its enterprise asset management processes. For the wider New York City area we head up the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Program Management Office for asset management.
Bringing our international expertise to the USA
Our international expertise in the sector has become highly valued by a range of transportation agencies in the USA and was a major factor for our inclusion in the team that undertook a top to bottom audit of New Jersey Transit - one of the country’s largest commuter rail providers. This included a review of financial planning practices, asset management processes, and the impact of one, on the other.
As part of our commitment to innovation and improving the customer experience, we have developed asset inspection and work order management software for use on mobile tablets, providing instantaneous collection of accurate data to give greater insight to current asset condition for transit, railroad and transportation authorities.
