NEW EAP guide

Building your support network

This quarter our focus is to help you build your support network and be aware of the support available to you. We have added a new guide to our Resources Library focused specifically on the support available from our EAP provider which will help you:

  • Be aware of what support is available and how best to access that support in a way that best works for you
  • How to access and navigate the My Healthy Advantage App
  • And if you're a people manager, how to best utilise the service alongside your role

Where to find all the information

And remember Wellbeing Wednesdays can still be a time where you can focus on your wellbeing and that of your colleagues. Little and often is best so you could set time aside weekly or whatever works best for you and your team. Take a look at our Wellbeing Wednesday page for further information.

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 was loneliness which affects different people in different ways. It’s often related to the quality of social connections that you have around you and whether you have a strong support network who you feel you can trust and rely on. Grief or bereavement can be a door which leads to loneliness, and it doesn’t just affect those who are physically isolated from others, it can creep up on anyone, including those with lots of other people around them.

The main way to relieve loneliness is through connecting with one another and maintaining relationships or creating new ones, even more important in this hybrid landscape in which we now work. Connection is one of the five ways to wellbeing and connecting with others gives us lots of positive things: information, advice, practical assistance, companionship, enjoyable experiences, and emotional support.

Another way to help break the cycle of loneliness is to serve others. This has an affirming positive impact on self-esteem. At work, using your Social Impact Days provides a way to benefit both your own wellbeing and supports the community around you at the same time. You can find out more about how to use these days here.

And don’t be afraid to rethink your use of time. How about dedicating 5 minutes a day to reaching out to someone you love? Or take some time to look at the quality of your time, which can easily become diluted by technology.
