Winter services

Every year our crews are on standby 24-hours a day, from October to April, to help keep local roads clear and free of ice and snow. Our winter services include salting (gritting) when road surface temperatures drop close to freezing or below. We plough snow off the roads, keep community salt bins stocked for local residents to use on public footpaths and roads and respond to winter storms and flooding.

Our local teams help build winter resilience in communities by running snow warden schemes, winter awareness events and developing public advice materials about travelling in winter.
