People managers

If your role involves managing or looking after a team of people, you can use the EAP service to request guidance and support on any employee cases you’re supporting. You can seek support for a variety of situations and issues. This might be with issues such as communicating change, holding difficult conversations, workplace conflict, return to work support or post-trauma support.

Use the Managers Guide to EAP and the Managers FAQs to the right of this page for further information and guidance.

You can also refer a member of your team to the EAP service but it's vital you discuss the referral with your team member prior to making the referral to obtain their consent. Once you've made the referral a counsellor will contact the individual to offer support and will let you know once contact has been made.

Critical Incident Support

Following a critical incident, Critical Incident Stress Debriefs (CISD) can be used as a proactive intervention. This is best done within 24-72 hours of the incident. A CISD has three main objectives:

  • Mitigate the impact of a traumatic incident.
  • Aid in the psychological recovery of otherwise healthy people distressed by a traumatic incident.
  • Identify those who may benefit from additional support services, or a referral for specialised counselling.

This service is not included in the core EAP contract and so must be funded by the contract.

To find out more about the practicalities of how a CISD is run refer to the CISD support guide. The EAP have also published a guide to supporting employees following a traumatic event, this can be found here

The Mental Health Hour

This is a weekly Q&A with a counsellor that will take place on Health Assured’s Instagram page every Thursday at 12 pm.

Carefully selected topics will get determined by the most frequent types of calls and queries they receive via the 24/7 counselling helpline. Each week, they will pick a different mental health related topic to focus on.

So make sure you head over to Health Assured’s Instagram page @healthassured_ and give them a follow before then.

The Q&A box for the session will go live on their Instagram story each Wednesday at 9am to allow you 24 hours to submit your questions surrounding the weekly topic.
