Apprentices FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have an unanswered question.

What’s the deadline for applications?

There is no fixed deadline for applications; we will close the post for each individual role once we have received a maximum number of applications. Our advice is to apply as soon as possible.

Does your apprenticeship programme have an age limit?

No, we encourage applications from all ages. However, for some of our operational roles you’ll need to be over 18, for health and safety reasons.

What if I don’t meet your academic requirements?

Unfortunately, if you don’t have the qualifications we ask for, your application will normally be unsuccessful. If you have special reasons, such as illness, which have prevented you achieving the minimum requirements then please detail this in your CV.

If I'm not successful this time, can I apply again?

Yes. All candidates are encouraged to apply again if and when a suitable role arises.

Do I have to complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award?

The honest answer is no, however, if you are under the age of 23.5 on your start date, you'll have the opportunity to apply for the DofE Gold Award. We encourage all eligible apprentices to take advantage of this fantastic development opportunity. If you need us to make reasonable adjustments, please let a member of the apprenticeship team know.

What happens at an assessment centre?

If you apply for an Amey apprenticeship, you might be invited to an assessment centre. This will involve a one-day event which gives you an introduction to Amey and further details on the Amey Apprenticeship Programme. You’ll have an interview, take part in a group activity and get to meet the Amey apprenticeship team who will answer any questions you might have.

How long will my apprenticeship last?

That depends on the type of apprenticeship you do, but it could be between 1 – 4 years. The job advert will tell you the apprenticeship level and length of the course.

What happens at the end of my apprenticeship?

On successful completion of your apprenticeship we’ll give you an appropriate job within your apprenticeship discipline.

I’ve looked everywhere on this site but I can’t find the answer to my query – can I contact you directly?

Yes, you can. You can email us at apprenticeships@amey.co.uk or call us on 01865 713 101.
