Andrew Nelson

Chief Financial Officer

Andrew Nelson is Group Finance Director and Executive Director on the Amey Plc Board. He was appointed in September 2006. Andrew has played a key role in restructuring the Group’s finances and negotiating acquisitions and disposals, including that of Owen Williams’ consultancy in 2006.

Andrew began his career in finance at Arthur Young, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1983. He then joined Edsaco, now part of UBS, and subsequently moved to Robert Fleming working in their corporate finance department. As part of his role within that department, he was involved in a ten month secondment to Trinidad, where he was part of a team advising the Government of Trinidad and Tobago on its plans to divest and float some of their largest state-owned enterprises.

In 1992 Andrew joined London Electricity and subsequently became head of corporate finance during the period when that company was sold first to Entergy and then to EdF.

Andrew joined Amey in 1999 as Finance Director of Amey Ventures, part of the Amey Group responsible for initiating, structuring and investing in PFI and PPP opportunities.

As part of this role he was instrumental in successfully concluding bids for the £1.8 billion Tube Lines PPP, the £500 million MoD Whitehall refurbishment and the £300 million Glasgow Schools programme. He also negotiated the successful sale of Amey’s investment portfolio to Laing Investments in early 2003.

After Ferrovial’s acquisition of Amey in 2003, Andrew became Group Treasurer and in that role he headed up the negotiation of a new £115 million syndicated corporate facility and its subsequent refinancing. He also played a lead role in the negotiations to acquire Amey's additional share in Tube Lines Limited and he remains a Board member of Tube Lines. Before his appointment to Group Finance Director, Andrew briefly held the post of Managing Director for Amey Ventures.

Andrew studied Engineering Science at the University of Exeter before training as an accountant. During his leisure hours he enjoys competitive skiing, golf and plays squash regularly.
