What is the purpose of this role?
As a key member of the Staffordshire design team your role will be to provide support to Senior and/or Principal Engineer’s on a wide variety of exciting projects. You will:
•Deliver all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the client’s specifications
•Ensure project requirements and are fully met
•Provide advice and guidance to junior members of the team
Advice and guidance is provided for staff and professional development is actively pursued through a programme of regular industry seminars.
What will this role involve?
•Prepare and check feasibility studies and technical reports alongside other written documents in an appropriate format
•Undertake preliminary and detailed design on projects of varying values (up to £50m)
•Undertake contractual management duties as part of the role supervising construction works
•Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
•Carry out site visits and surveys, inspections and supervise contractors
•Comply with the requirements of the Amey Integrated Management System including Health & Safety, Environmental and all other appropriate regulations
•Prepare/check design approach, calculations, drawings and documents
•Take line management responsibility for the direction and supervision of junior design team members to help ensure timely project delivery is achieved within budget and in accordance with the specification
•Engage in client and third party liaison – including internal and external stakeholders
•Where required, support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts
What are we looking for?
•CEng or IEng status with recognised professional body
•Computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite and relevant engineering software packages
•Demonstrable experience in Highway Design and contract administration
•Good communication skills and the ability to work within a small team
•Good communication skills dealing with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives and the public
•Client focused approach to service delivery
This role is based in our Stafford Design Hub. This multi-disciplinary office, with strong links to the wider Amey Consulting business, provides a range of local highway design improvements and maintenance solutions for our client. Based in Stafford not only will you have opportunity to be involved in the award-winning £62m Stafford Western Access Route but you will have opportunity to be involved in HS2 and Highways England CDF.
However, it’s not all work and we have a good social team to arrange out of hours’ activities and we also give our staff one day off per year to support local charities / community events.
Our Stafford Design Hub is located in the heart of Stafford which is easily accessed from Birmingham and Manchester via rail or the motorway network.
