Helping the development of communities

We recognise the important role of local authorities in acting as place shapers, delivering the community leadership, economic well-being and environmental improvements necessary for the development of productive communities.

Education and local infrastructure development are both vital catalysts for social regeneration. They also help to address some of the other issues that blight communities, such as crime, graffiti and personal security. Our aim is to help deliver the resources that act as hubs for community and in all our development programmes, we recognise the interests of children, young people, the vulnerable and the elderly.

Like many community buildings and resources, schools must be designed and built to meet the specific needs of the population they serve. Through England’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme we can show how well-maintained and well-run community resources can act as catalysts for the promotion of social inclusion and the wider social and economic regeneration. This is also true for the improved street lighting, CCTV and communal areas that we design and manage.
