Electricity distribution business Western Power Distribution (WPD) has awarded several Framework Agreements totalling an estimated annual figure of £24m to Amey, one of the UK’s leading public and regulated services providers.

The contract involves Amey refurbishing and renewing 92,000km of overhead power lines across WPD’s network until 2018.
The network serves the South West, South Wales and Midlands regions and is the largest in the UK, providing 7.8m customers with a reliable and safe supply of electricity.

The contract builds on an existing relationship, which has involved Enterprise plc providing services across some of WPD’s network since 2003.  Amey acquired Enterprise in April 2013.

Mel Ewell, Amey’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by WPD to deliver overhead line renewal across the South West, South Wales and the Midlands region.

“This latest partnership with Western Power Distribution builds on a successful period for Amey across the utilities sector and we are pleased that the utilities proposition formed off the back of our Enterprise acquisition earlier this year has been received so positively by our customers.”

The contract award comes just weeks after Amey won contracts with Welsh Water, United Utilities and Severn Trent Water to provide clean and waste water services.

In other markets, Amey has won a further seven major highways contracts with, Gloucestershire County Council, Liverpool City Council, Transport Scotland, the New South Wales state government agency in Australia, the Queensland Government Department in Australia and ASC 6 and ASC 8 with the Highways Agency.
