Gloucestershire County Council has announced Amey as the preferred bidder for a contract to deliver highways services across the county.
The contract, which will run for 5 years with possible extensions up to 11 years, will be worth between £130million and £450million. Amey will take responsibility for managing and maintaining Gloucestershire’s highway network – including nearly 10,000 km of roads, as well as providing winter maintenance services and delivering highway improvement schemes.
Amey already works closely with Gloucester City Council providing street scene services for local residents such as refuse and recycling collections, street cleaning, and grounds maintenance.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways said, “The road network is a vitally important asset for our county which people care a great deal about.
“I’m grateful to officers and fellow members of the cross-party working group for their painstaking evaluation of the bids which resulted in a clear recommendation to cabinet.
“I am confident that in Amey we have appointed a highways contractor that will provide the quality services our county deserves as well as value for money for Gloucestershire’s tax payers. Thanks to the extra investment we've made in our roads and this new partnership, I expect Gloucestershire's network to go from strength to strength into the 21st century."
The contract award comes at the end of a successful year that has seen Amey pick up six major highways contracts with Liverpool City Council, Transport Scotland, the New South Wales state government agency in Australia, the Queensland Government Department in Australia and ASC 6 and ASC 8 with Highway Agency.
There will now be a four month mobilisation period to finalise contractual arrangements so that the new contract can start on the 1st April 2014
