Amey has been recognised in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list, announced at the National Apprenticeship Awards this month.

The prestigious list was compiled by the National Apprenticeship Service in partnership with City & Guilds, and recognises excellence in businesses that employ apprentices. After a rigorous selection process the most outstanding Apprenticeship employers from four National Apprenticeship Awards employer categories (ranging from small to macro sized businesses) went forward to feature in the list, which demonstrates the breadth of employers who now offer Apprenticeships.

Amey currently has a total of 203 apprentices in full-time, permanent roles. The recruits work on contracts ranging from highways maintenance, business administration and arboriculture, to design, transport planning, logistics and IT.

Commenting on the company’s entry into the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer’s list, Valerie Hughes-D’Aeth, Group HR Director at Amey said: “We’re delighted to be recognised as one of the UK’s leading employers of apprentices. At Amey we place a great deal of emphasis on recruiting young, talented people who bring a fresh approach and may become our future leaders.

“Apprenticeships provide excellent structured development opportunities which are helping us grow our highly skilled workforce and support young people’s career development.”

David Way, Chief Executive of the National Apprenticeship Service, congratulated Amey on its success: “The breadth and depth of employers on our Top 100 list just goes to show the huge impact Apprenticeships have on companies of all sizes and the UK economy.

“Apprenticeships are the country’s gold standard for vocational training. As part of the new era for Apprenticeships we are introducing measures to ensure there has never been a better time for employers to hire apprentices.”

Amey recruits around 100 apprentices onto its Apprenticeship Academy each year. The programme entails completing both a technical certificate in their chosen area as well as a National Vocational Qualification or Scottish Vocational Qualification, and incorporates the Duke of Edinburgh’s Business Scheme Gold Award as a core part of the programme.
