Leading infrastructure services provider Amey has been named as one of the UK’s top graduate employers for the way it invests in employee career development and offers varied career paths.

Amey was listed in TheJobCrowd’s 2011 Top Companies For Graduates To Work For index, in recognition of how well the company looks after and values its graduates, as well as offering flexibility in career development.

Valerie Hughes-D’Aeth, Group HR Director at Amey said: “At Amey we place a great deal of emphasis on recruiting and retaining graduate talent.  With a skills shortage affecting the engineering industry, it is very important that we support career development through structured programmes and further training. We are delighted that our commitment to our graduates has been recognised by this ranking.”

Lauren   Jones, Leadership Graduate at Amey said: “Amey is a very diverse company, which means I have been able to explore opportunities in lots of different areas of the business.  Thanks to the support of the Talent Team I have also been able to go on several training courses, which are really helping my career development.”

The reviewers acknowledged that the Amey Management Team takes a keen interest in the graduate scheme and the development of candidates.  The company’s provision of training courses and workshops was also regarded as rewarding and helpful in enhancing career development.

Amey has pledged that both graduate trainees and apprentices will each make up 1 percent of its workforce.  The company recruits up to 100 graduate trainees per year across two dedicated programmes - Leadership and Development.  The Leadership Programme is designed for ambitious, high achieving graduate trainees and involves a two-year formal development programme that aims to maximise leadership and managerial potential.  The Development Programme focuses on graduate trainees within a specified role and supports them to gain professional accreditation.

Amey also offers an apprenticeship scheme to applicants aged between 18 and 23, which provides the opportunity to work towards gold in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

In addition to being recognised as a top employer, Amey has won two awards this year; having been awarded ‘Team of the Year’ at the prestigious Employee Benefits Awards 2011, and the award for ‘Most Successful Change Management Programme’ at the National HR Excellence Awards 2011.
