Leading transport provider Amey has won a top industry award for the way it helps manage one third of London’s traffic, in partnership with EnterpriseMouchel, Ringways and TfL.

Amey works with the three organisations, to deliver highways maintenance services across 220km of highways in North London.
The team has now been awarded Transport Team/Partnership of the Year at the London Transport Awards, organised by Transport Times Events.

Judges recognised that the Partnership had engaged with local communities and supported charity and community events.  Amey has helped ex-offenders find work, arranged for offenders to clean up their graffiti and allowed staff to take part in volunteering days.

The Partnership has also implemented an action plan to target under-represented people. This includes apprenticeship programmes, up-skilling the workforce to minimum NVQ standards, community engagement days and school visits across London’s poorest boroughs.
In addition the Partnership has worked hard to promote equality and diversity. For example, Amey alone has recently sponsored the 2011 Women’s National Outstanding Achievement Awards held at the Royal Academy of Engineering.  These awards celebrate the success of women who make a significant difference to the engineering industry.

The Partnership also showed a commitment to achieving excellent standards in health and safety. In the last financial year, the team reused over 99% of construction and demolition waste and has prevented 253,000 tonnes of waste from being sent to landfill.

Angel Fernandez, Business Director London, Scotland and Northern Ireland, from Amey said:  “This is an absolutely fantastic honour for Amey and our Partners. The partnership impressed judges with our continuous drive to improve and achieve best value. It also shows how we give back to the communities we work in.”
