Network Rail have awarded Amey a £7 million contract for the supply of eight tampers and one ballast regulator over a three year period.  This is part of seven deals covering 18 infrastructure areas across the UK which they hope will maximise the use of these machines on the rail network as well as bringing significant savings and increasing productivity.

Tampers are a vital piece of equipment used to ensure the correct position of rail tracks.  Over time regular usage of the tracks results in movement and renewed tracks may need repositioning.  Tampers travel lift and re-align rail tracks to ensure that as trains pass over them their passengers have a smooth, comfortable and safe journey.

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive of Amey said:

“This is a fantastic demonstration of the strong working relationship between Amey and Network Rail, bolstered by the increase in the amount of vehicles we will be supplying.  Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Building on their existing excellent partnership with Network Rail Amey have worked together to achieve Network Rail’s savings objectives whilst ensuring safety, reliability and performance remain priorities. Amey’s tampers will work for Network Rail and be allocated to renewals and maintenance where necessary.
