National road maintenance. Maintaining highways is one of the most important public services that we perform.

Highways maintenance has long been one of Amey’s core businesses, ever since the construction of the UK’s first ever motorway. We have a presence on 20,000 km of the UK’s road network.

Safe roads are critical to the public’s quality of life. They help our society to operate. They also support local economies and communities, particularly in more remote areas where lives and livelihoods are dependent on road access.

Through successful partnerships with clients that include the Highways Agency, Department for Transport, Transport Scotland and Department for Regional Development in Northern Ireland, we maintain, manage and improve long stretches of the country’s most important motorways and highways.

As well as performing the work ourselves, we involve other contractors where required. Collaboration is a smart way to ensure the availability of the resources required on such demanding and important long-term assignments.

The direct benefits of our work for road users include greater choice, better service and journeys that are quicker, safer and more enjoyable as a result.

The bigger picture is a more inclusive and productive society, where important people and places are always within reach.
