Cardiff valleys platform extensions project. Amey plays a key role in maintaining the UK’s rail infrastructure.
As a partner to Network Rail, Amey is heavily involved in the project to create a high speed, high performance rail network that can meet the demands of the 21st century.
Increasing capacity is a priority, on the busiest inter-city routes but also in more remote areas, where local people depend on the public transport network for their day to day needs.
Through our work on projects like the Cardiff Valleys Platform Extensions Project, we’re making it possible for more people to benefit from the social, economic and environmental advantages of rail travel.
We were engaged to extend 19 platforms at 14 stations across South Wales. Using multi-disciplinary expertise, we delivered an integrated, end-to-end solution that ran from outline design to construction and handover.
On projects with multiple locations and sub-contractors, co-ordination has to be a priority to avoid over-runs and protect network operations. Our central project office maintained control at all times, providing oversight and keeping Network Rail up to speed on progress.
Work like this provides satisfaction on many levels. Overcoming the varied intellectual and operational challenges is good. Contributing to the quality of life of so many people is even better.
