Here are some of the answers to the questions people ask us about careers and job applications.
Applications and interviews
How do I apply for a current vacancy at Amey?
When you find a role that you would like to apply for, simply click the Apply link for this position. If you are a new user, you will be asked to register your details.
Can I apply for more than one role?
Yes, check our current vacancies page and submit an application for any positions that suit your skills.
Can I apply for the position if the closing date has passed?
Unfortunately you cannot apply for a position once the closing date has passed. Please check our current vacancies for other roles and sign up for our job alerts to avoid missing out on future opportunities.
Can I apply for a position in the UK if I need a work permit?
All employees will be asked for evidence of their right to live and work in the UK, either by providing a UK/EU passport or work permit. We are not able to offer support in obtaining work permits except in very rare cases of critical skills shortages.
If I'm not successful this time, can I apply again?
All candidates are encouraged to apply again if and when a suitable role arises. Please check our current vacancies for other jobs and sign up for our job alerts.
Do you have an equal opportunities policy?
Yes. Anyone applying to Amey will be treated equally and in line with our equal opportunities policy. We recruit from the widest and most diverse talent pool available.
How does the interview process work?
Our interview process is based on the requirements of the role. We use competency-based interviewing, psychometric testing and assessment centres, but there are a variety of other selection tools we use where appropriate. You will be given details of the format when invited for interview.
Does Amey pay expenses to candidates travelling to interviews/assessment centres?
No. We do not offer any reimbursement for expenses incurred in attending an interview or an assessment centre.
How long doesn’t the selection process take?
There is no fixed timeframe for the selection process. For more senior roles, you might meet us on several occasions before we reach a decision. However, we understand the pressures of looking for work and we aim to operate efficiently and effectively to minimise your time investment in the selection process.
Does Amey have a refer-a-friend scheme?
Yes. The Friend to Amey scheme allows our employees to nominate someone who they think could work for Amey and live our values. As long as they are not part of the selection process and they recommend a successful candidate, they can be rewarded with up to £1,000.
Do you offer work experience/summer internships?
Yes. There are opportunities for work experience and internships at Amey in the form of summer and year-in placements. All placements, work experience and internships are managed locally at each of our contracts.
Please post a copy of your CV with a cover letter detailing the type of work/internship experience you are interested in. Please note, you will only be contacted if there is a placement opportunity available and you have been shortlisted for an interview.
What is the induction process like?
We like our employees to get to know their local department, manager and location first before finding out about the company as a whole. Typically, a new starter will be invited to our one-day Amey Corporate Induction after a couple of months in their job. This will help them understand ‘how we do things at Amey’ and the ‘bigger picture’ on health and safety. We will explain Amey’s expectations in dealing with customers and improve their knowledge of the diversity agenda and the benefits it brings us.
I’ve looked everywhere on this site but I can’t find the answer to my query – can I contact you directly?
Yes, you can. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 01865 713 101.

What will you do with my information?
We will only use your information to contact you about roles within Amey that may interest you based on your stated preferences. Amey treats all information supplied by applicants as confidential and won’t share this information with any third party.
What if I can’t find a vacancy that suits my skills?
If you don't find a position that matches your interests, don't give up. Submit your information to us using our Job Alerts feature and, by indicating your job preferences, we can notify you of future job opportunities.
I have received an email asking me to apply for a job at Amey. What should I do?
We are aware of recent incidents involving organisations and individuals falsely claiming to recruit people on our behalf, issuing false contracts and soliciting personal details and/or money to process security checks, etc. Please be aware that all individuals who gain employment with Amey do so after a formal recruitment process.
How can I tell if a job offer is fraudulent?
Email communications may come from non-Amey email addresses (e.g. from Yahoo, Gmail or other addresses, although the Amey name may appear in the first part of the email). Contact numbers provided by fraudsters are typically mobile telephones starting with +44 (0)70, rather than official company telephone numbers. There may also be a (false) application form, which Amey would never provide, nor would we request any form payment or personal or financial information.
What else can I do if I receive a suspicious recruitment offer?
If you believe you have been defrauded, stop all communication and report the fraud to the authorities, i.e. your local police station or Action Fraud and provide them with all the relevant information. If you have provided bank details, contact your bank immediately.
We recommend that you do not respond to unsolicited job opportunities from people with whom you are unfamiliar. Report any instances of fraudulent approaches or job offers to Amey at: email@example.com
