Monica Steele, who has previously achieved third place winner in the prestigious New Civil Engineer Graduate of the Year competition and a finalist in the WICE awards for ‘Best Young Woman Engineer’ category said: “I am delighted and very proud to have won this award. The standard of competition was very high and it was an honour to be chosen by the judges. To support the demands of today’s infrastructure we’re going to need a talent pool of engineers and technicians which is why we need to raise the profile of civil engineering, encourage diversity and promote the benefits of a career in this industry.”

A judge from Ground Engineering spoke of Monica’s success: “It is good to see someone coming into the industry through a less conventional route and doing well. Monica is very capable considering she only graduated two years ago. She has demonstrated passion both within her workplace and to promote the industry through STEM activities.”
